ARTIST Carolina Mazzolari

Carolina Mazzolari is an Italian artist based in London, her practice involves textile manipulation, printing, painting, photography, video, and performance.

Her creative process explores symbols, techniques, and forms, leaving the traces of her exploration – a broken thread, an unfinished line, an incomplete grid – visible for the viewer to ponder.

She is inspired by psychoanalysis, intuition, cognition, human behavior, and emotional development.

In her recent series “Emotional Fields”, presented as a solo show at Tristan Hoare Gallery London in September 2019, she portrays the materialization of elusive states of mind like “Love”, “Hesitation”, “Awe”.

These ideas are manifested as painted, hand-embroidered, and woven emotional maps, guiding the viewer through abstract states which are described in cotton, silk, and wool thread embroidered onto unprimed linen with her distinctive grey herringbone stitch technique that activate itself with light.

In each map, there is a geometric Halo made of grey silver rays which radiate a sense of intimacy as the artist has physically interacted with the fabrics over many hundreds of hours. The resulting maps are reminiscent of mandalas where love, hesitation, loss, grief, and struggle are described in a personal and universal language, suggesting a deeper human pattern.

Carolina Mazzolari è un’artista italiana con sede a Londra, la sua pratica comprende manipolazione tessile, stampa, pittura, fotografia, video e performance.

Il suo processo creativo esplora simboli, tecniche e forme, lasciando le tracce della sua esplorazione – un filo spezzato, una linea incompleta, una griglia incompleta – visibili allo spettatore per riflettere.

È ispirata dalla psicoanalisi, dall’intuizione, dalla cognizione, dal comportamento umano e dallo sviluppo emotivo.

Nella sua recente serie “Emotional Fields”, presentata come personale alla Tristan Hoare Gallery di Londra nel settembre 2019, ritrae la materializzazione di stati d’animo sfuggenti come “Love”, “Hesitation”, “Awe”.

Queste idee si manifestano come mappe emozionali dipinte, ricamate a mano e tessute, guidando lo spettatore attraverso stati astratti che sono descritti in cotone, seta e filo di lana ricamati su lino non primerizzato con la sua caratteristica tecnica del punto a spina di pesce grigio che si attiva con la luce.

In ogni mappa, c’è un alone geometrico fatto di raggi grigio argento che irradiano un senso di intimità mentre l’artista ha interagito fisicamente con i tessuti per molte centinaia di ore. Le mappe risultanti ricordano mandala in cui amore, esitazione, perdita, dolore e lotta sono descritti in un linguaggio personale e universale, suggerendo un modello umano più profondo.
