ARTIST Elisabetta Nistico

Elisabetta Nistico was born in Florence in 1963 from the union of two artists: her father a sculptor, her mother a painter.

She had the first rudiments of the craft in the hearth of her home, she tells us: “my father took me to the studio with him to mess with clay from a very young age and my mother taught me to mix colours at home”.

She completed her entire studies in Florence, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in sculpture, then continued with Decoration. She obtained a second high school diploma as a kindergarten teacher, became a mother, attended university and worked as a veterinary assistant and various jobs: “but I never left my great love: art”.

“I live in this city full of history, of art; here I exhibited in collective and personal exhibitions, I also taught and exhibited at the European University of San Domenico in Fiesole. In 2013 I exhibited in a group show in Paris at the Thuillier gallery and at the end of the same year in New York at the Amsterdam Whitney gallery in Chelsea. In recent times I have taken up an old passion: the study of esoterism and the practice of bioenergy sciences. In my works, mostly paintings, I was inspired by the female figures of the Ukijoe of Japan in the 1600s and by the artists of the Viennese Secession of the 1900s. But in the figures I portrayed I wanted to emphasise the pure form, the expression of inner emptiness, loneliness, sadness, cover women, decorations. I emphasise how a certain society wants women: all appearance and little brains, due to the male-dominated desire to put females in place as furnishings “.

Elisabetta tells us that in her recent works she began, while still doing portraits, to paint with more freedom and imagination, seeking spirituality and awareness, also due to the period of change due to the epidemic that overwhelmed us.

Elisabetta Nistico, nasce a Firenze nel 1963 dall’unione di due artisti: il padre scultore, la madre pittrice.

Ha avuto i primi rudimenti, quindi nelle mura domestiche, ci racconta:“mio padre mi portava in studio con sé a pasticciare con la creta già da piccolissima e la mamma mi insegnava a mescolare i colori in casa”.

Ha svolto tutto il suo percorso di studi a Firenze, si è diplomata all’ Accademia di Belle Arti in scultura, poi ha proseguito con Decorazione. Ha conseguito una seconda maturità come maestra d’asilo, è diventata madre, ha frequentato l’università e lavorato come aiuto veterinario e fatto ancora tanti studi, lavori: “ma non ho mai lasciato il mio grande amore: l’arte”.

“Vivo in questa città piena di storia, di arte; qui ho esposto in mostre collettive e personali, ho insegnato ed esposto anche all’Università Europea di S.Domenico a Fiesole. Nel 2013 ho esposto in una collettiva a Parigi alla galleria Thuillier e alla fine dello stesso anno a New York alla galleria Amsterdam Whitney di Chelsea. Negli ultimi tempi ho ripreso una vecchia passione : studio esoterismo e la pratica delle scienze bio energetiche. Nei miei lavori, per la maggior parte dipinti, mi sono ispirata alle figure femminili dell’Ukijoe del Giappone del 600 e agli artisti della Secessione viennese del 1900. Ma nelle figure da me ritratte ho voluto mettere l’accento su quanto fossero pura forma, solo espressione del vuoto interiore, solitudine, tristezza, donne copertina, decorazioni. Ho messo l’accento su come una certa società volesse la donna : tutta apparenza e poco cervello, per la volontà maschilista di metterci nel solito posto come suppellettili”.

Elisabetta ci racconta che nei lavori recenti ha cominciato, pur facendo ancora ritratti, a dipingere con più libertà e fantasia ricercando la spiritualità e la consapevolezza, a causa anche del periodo di cambiamento dovuto all’epidemia che ci ha travolto.
