ARTIST Manuela De Stefani

Manuela De Stefani started her artistic career in the ‘90’s by attending the studio of Paolo Cervi Kervisher in Trieste, Italy: this consisted in many hours of drawing, mainly still life and nudes. From that moment onwards art has always accompanied her, she is a firm believer in it’s therapeutic value. Manuela describes this as: “the joy I experience while I work on my art is so great, that sometimes it is hard to keep a a correct balance in the art compositions that need to show my soul, my world.”.

Manuela, attended the studio of Franco Chersicola too, to whom she is very grateful, with him she experimented the technique of “Terre su Carta” (that literally means “earth on paper”) with great satisfaction. The lesson from this experience for her was the following: work seriously, avoid appeasing and try to find an original way to express the world inside you.

Her works are landscapes, landscapes of the soul, free from the human figure: the eye is lost in them, it looks for a faraway horizon and in doing so feels it’s own fragility and mortality.

Manuela talking of her art says: “In the texture of my hills, I often insert shapes that cannot be found in nature, the result is a personal construction of landscapes that could be defined as emotional: the viewer moves in the space I create on my canvas trying to recognize places he has seen before, but while doing so, he finds himself drawn towards something he can feel but not clearly see. And I think of a poem by Giacomo Leopardi, the “Infinito”, that help us uplift our spirit from the limits of our mortal lives, bringing serenity and happiness: “and sinking in this sea is sweet to me”.

Manuela de Stefani inizia la sua carriera artistica negli anni Novanta frequentando il laboratorio di Paolo Cervi Kervischer a Trieste: tanto disegno, copie dal vero e nudo. Da quel momento l’arte la accompagna sempre: “sono convinta del suo grande potenziale terapeutico, la gioia che provo durante l’esecuzione dei miei lavori é grande, talvolta accompagnata anche da una certa fatica nel trovare il giusto equilibrio nella composizione che deve esprimere il mio mondo interiore”.

In seguito ha frequentato il laboratorio di Franco Chersicola, al quale è molto grata, e con lui ha sperimentato la tecnica delle terre su carta con molta soddisfazione. L’insegnamento ricevuto da Chersicola é stato questo: “lavorare seriamente, evitare il compiacimento e trovare un modo originale per esprimere la propria interiorità. E così ho fatto”.”

Sono paesaggi i suoi, paesaggi dell’anima, liberi dall’incombenza della figura umana: lo sguardo si perde, cerca un orizzonte lontano e nel farlo percepisce la sua fragilità e la sua finitezza.

Parlando dei suoi lavori, Manuela ci dice: “tra le trame delle mie colline inserisco spesso forme introvabili in Natura ed il risultato é rappresentato da una costruzione personale dei miei luoghi attraverso un’architettura che si può definire emotiva: il fruitore si muove in un paesaggio nel tentativo di riconoscerne scorci da lui già visti e nel farlo viene attratto da ciò che può percepire ma non vedere con chiarezza. Mi vengono in mente i versi del Leopardi nel suo “Infinito”, che ci aiutano a sollevare lo Spirito dai limiti della vita terrena, portatori di serenità e beatitudine : “…e il naufragar m’é dolce in questo mare…” .
